LG&E, KU Giving Campaign Pledges More Than $1.6 Million to Kentucky Non-Profit Organizations
Employee Participation Rate Twice National Average; 27 Charities Benefit
12.28.2011
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than 27 non-profit organizations across the state will start the New Year with added financial security and the ability to assist more Kentucky families, thanks to the continued support from employees of Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities.
In total, the companies’ annual charitable giving campaign will pledge more than $1.6 million in 2012, making it the fifth year in a row employees have raised more than $1 million in support of the communities in which they live and work.
Nearly 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees now participate in the companies' annual giving campaign through payroll deduction, more than twice the national average for employee participation in charitable giving.
“As non-profit organizations face a sluggish economy that has hampered fundraising efforts, our employees continue to rally in support of charitable agencies that provide critical programs and services on which so many underserved Kentuckians rely,” said Chip Keeling, Vice President of Communications for LG&E and KU, and co-chair of the companies’ 2011 charitable giving campaign. “Just in time for the holiday season, our employees demonstrated the power of their giving spirit by producing another record-setting campaign.”
In Louisville, non-profit organizations Fund for the Arts, Metro United Way and WHAS Crusade for Children will receive donations. Other United Ways across the KU service territory – from Paducah to Harlan – also will benefit.
Since 2005, LG&E and KU's employee giving campaign has raised nearly $11 million through payroll deductions, event fundraisers, direct-to-charity donations and Foundation support.
