LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company announced today that Chip Keeling, longtime spokesperson and vice president of Communications will retire at the end of May.

Keeling, who came to the utilities in 1999 from GE, served as manager of External Communications and director of Communications before being promoted to his current position in 2002.

During his tenure, Keeling led the communications efforts for mergers with Powergen plc, E.ON AG and PPL Corporation. As the primary spokesperson for LG&E and KU for more than a decade he has seen the company through record-breaking wind and ice storms, the various ownership changes and the ever-increasing environmental requirements.

He has been active in the community, serving on a variety of boards and playing a key role in the company's sponsorships and charitable giving.

LG&E and KU also announced today that Chris Whelan, director of Communications and Brand Management, will be promoted to vice president of Communications.

Whelan, who joined the company in 1995, has held various leadership roles in Internal and External Communications including an expatriate assignment at Powergen in Coventry, England, where she managed Internal Communications and Brand Management. She also helped develop E.ON’s initial Internal Communications group.

She has been instrumental in the communications efforts associated with mergers, acquisitions and other regulatory matters. She also manages the company's brand and image, leading the various rebranding initiatives and advertising campaigns.

"Both Chip and Chris have guided LG&E and KU through some challenging communications developments during their careers here," said Victor A. Staffieri, Chairman, President and CEO of LG&E and KU. "Chip's leadership and engaging personality will be greatly missed, but he leaves us in capable hands with a strong Communications team and Chris as his successor."
