What’s new in the medical plan for 2024?

  • Premium distributions: To align with our other operating companies and benchmarks, LG&E and KU will now split annual premium payments across all 26 pay periods throughout the year, instead of 24.
  • Premium changes: LG&E and KU’s medical plans will have premium changes that range from approximately a $2 biweekly pay decrease to a $16 increase based on 24 pays. However, premiums will now be deducted from 26 pays.
  • New medical plan option: A High Deductible Health Plan without an HSA (HDHP Low no HSA) will now be offered and will have a biweekly premium of $17 (Employee Only) or $62 (Employee + Family), based on 26 biweekly pays. The HDHP Low no HSA has the lowest premiums, but the highest out-of-pocket costs. Please review materials carefully when selecting a medical plan
  • Expanded coverage for specialty needs: We are pleased that our medical plans will now offer expanded coverage to meet a variety of specialty needs including acupuncture (10 sessions), enhanced support for women undergoing cancer treatment such as wig and mastectomy bra coverage, and gender-affirming care services.
  • Domestic Partner Coverage: Beginning with the 2024 Annual Open Enrollment period, LG&E and KU will recognize Domestic Partners as dependents. This change promotes inclusivity within the company’s benefits plans and aligns coverage with the other PPL operating companies. For questions about Domestic Partner benefits and enrollment, contact benefits@pplweb.com.

My Enrollment Confirmation Statement is wrong, what should I do?

Contact HR/Benefits at benefits@pplweb.com to have your enrollment reviewed.

If my spouse's Open Enrollment is after the company's, and it is less expensive for our dependents to be on his/her plan, can I make changes to my coverage?

Changes in dependents' coverage can be made during certain qualifying events called "Changes in Status"; open enrollment, marriage, birth, and divorce all qualify. Contact HR/Benefits at benefits@pplweb.com for your specific situation.

Must I (or my dependents) have medical coverage to elect dental and/or vision coverage?

No. You can elect each benefit separately.

If I elect the EPO/HMO plan and have an emergency out of state, will I have to pay out-of-pocket?

Emergency care (emergency room, ambulance, and urgent care) are covered under the EPO/HMO plan even if you are out of network.  If you are admitted to a hospital after your emergency, it is at the discretion of Anthem whether additional care is covered as out-of-network.

Will the company contribute to employees' Health Savings Accounts?

Yes. LG&E and KU contributes $600 per year for Employee only coverage and $1,200 for Employee + Spouse, Employee + Child(ren), and Family coverage to active full-time regular employees. These amounts are deposited annually into your HSA account.

Can I use my FSA/HSA to pay my dependents' health expenses if they are not covered under my plan?

Yes. Your FSA/HSA can be used to pay your eligible dependents' expenses if they are not on your plan.
