How the Fridge and Freezer Recycling Program works

Residential electric customers can sign in to My Account or call 1-800-356-5467 to submit recycling requests.

From there, customers can schedule a pick-up time with our program partner, ARCA, Inc., to have a trained team remove and recycle up to two working, inefficient refrigerators or freezers that meet program requirements each year.

Weekday, evening and Saturday appointments are available. Someone at least 18 years or older must be present during the appointment.

The vendor will then deliver the appliances to a recycling facility at no additional charge to the customer. The appliances will be carefully disassembled so the metals, plastics, glass, foam insulation, PCBs, CFC-12 refrigerant and used oil can be properly recycled.

In return for reducing energy consumption and recycling that refrigerator or freezer, customers will receive $50 per recycled appliance within six to eight weeks.

In order to qualify for the program, the refrigerator or freezer must be:
  • At least 7.75 cubic feet in size or larger;
  • Operational, empty and accessible for removal.
