Foundation awards $12,000 in scholarships to 10 students across Kentucky

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – Today LG&E and KU Energy LLC announced the awarding of scholarships to 10 outstanding area students. Provided by the LG&E and KU Foundation, this year’s scholarships mark the latest round in the Foundation’s more than two decades of educational support available to children of the company’s employees. The scholarships provide the college-bound students $1,200 in financial assistance for up to four years, and are intended to be used toward tuition, books, fees, supplies and classroom equipment.

“Students of today often face so many challenges and school costs can feel like an added burden,” said Angie Evans, LG&E and KU vice president of Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs. “The LG&E and KU Foundation scholarships and our company’s commitment to education are just some of the ways we try to lessen their load so students have every opportunity to succeed and achieve their academic goals.”

Independent judges from Scholarship America chose the recipients based on academic skills, school and community activities, leadership abilities, and communications skills demonstrated by each student’s personal statements. To qualify, students must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university.  Students must have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 and must maintain a 3.0 while attending a college or university.
