LG&E and KU have a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the communities they serve. This commitment began more than a century ago when our predecessor company lit the sprawling little town of Louisville with one of the nation's first natural gas street lights. This commitment has continued to grow over the years and positively impacts thousands of individuals in Kentucky.

We contribute resources, talent and ideas that support community heritage and economic growth. The LG&E and KU Foundation provides critical funding for educational, socioeconomic and cultural experiences and development.

Giving to the Communities We Serve

Our LG&E and KU employees are committed to improving the quality of life in the communities where they live and work. In addition to volunteering countless hours and giving their time and talent to support their local communities, employees generously contribute to our annual employee giving campaign, called the Power of One.

Since 2005, the companies' annual Power of One campaign has raised more than $14 million to support hundreds of nonprofit organizations, including WHAS Crusade for Children, Fund for the Arts and United Way agencies throughout the Commonwealth. Thanks in part to our employees' contributions, these organizations can confidently provide services to thousands of individuals.

Last year alone, employees contributed more than $1 million to the campaign — making 2013 the seventh year in a row that our employee donations have surpassed the $1 million donation milestone. With additional LG&E and KU Foundation donations, the 2013 Power of One total was $1.6 million.

And, nearly 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in the companies' campaign through recurrent payroll deductions — a participation rate that is more than twice the national average for employee payroll donation in charitable giving.

We know you rely on us, just as you rely on the critical support of the agencies and programs that benefit from our charitable efforts. You have counted on us for over a century to provide you safe and reliable energy, but you can also count on us to continue to support the communities we serve through our advocacy, volunteerism and charitable giving.
