Solar Share program continues its popularity with customers

Increasing participation by both residential and business customers is driving rapid expansion of our Solar Share facility in Shelby County, KY. The third and fourth sections are now fully subscribed, meaning we’ve reached the halfway point of the project. Construction of these latest two sections, which will each have 1,150 solar panels, will be completed later this year. In total, when completed, the facility will consist of eight 500-kilowatt sections.

The Solar Share program makes it easy for KU and LG&E customers who want to support local solar energy without having to deal with the high cost of installation and continuous maintenance. Simply select a preferred number of shares at a cost per share of $5.55 per month (less than 20 cents a day) for each 250-watt share of solar. There is also an option to buy 25 years of participation in the program for a one-time fee of $799. As a program participant, you’ll receive an advanced meter and a credit on your monthly bill based on your subscription level and the amount of energy produced by the facility.

We are currently taking subscriptions for the fifth section, which is more than 50% subscribed.
