Where do vampires lurk in your home?

October 1, 2010
October is National Energy Awareness Month, and we're kicking it off with an appearance on WAVE 3 today at 10 a.m. to talk about vampire energy, among other things. It's all part of our Home Energy Makeover Show, where we help find ways to make customers' homes more energy efficient.

According to this month's issue of Consumer Reports, more than 40 items in your home consume energy even when they're turned off. Do you leave your cell phone charger plugged in even after your cell phone has finished charging? It's likely still draining power, hence the term "vampire" energy.

In fact, vampire energy can add up to $125 in additional costs to annual utility expenses. There are ways to curb it, such as smart strips, but get the full rundown -- as well as many more energy efficiency tips -- this morning on WAVE 3. If you're unable to watch the show live today, check back here to watch the episode (and previous ones) online.

Until next time, keep using energy safely and wisely.
