Michelle Griffith doesn’t sing solo, but she helps plant employees work in harmony
October 11, 2016Although her official title is “senior labor distribution clerk” at LG&E and KU’s Trimble County Station, for Michelle Griffith, and to many others at the plant, she’s known as “Mother Hen” — a nod to her many responsibilities beyond official timekeeping and approval of time.
On any given day you’ll find this Trimble County native lending a hand to new employees on benefits enrollment, helping new co-ops acclimate to the workplace, championing various company and community causes, like the company’s charitable-giving campaign known as Power of One, and organizing local efforts such as blood drives and holiday collections to help improve the quality of life of plant neighbors in the community.
One of her proudest moments came when this year she helped raise more than $31,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
An alto in her church choir, Griffith will be the first to say she doesn’t like singing solos or being in the limelight, but others have taken notice of her community spirit.
The Bedford Rotary Club recognized Griffith’s numerous volunteer efforts earlier this year, selecting her for its annual “Citizen of the Year” award, a distinction given to an individual who has demonstrated “service above self” through activities benefiting county programs and organizations.
“From our community involvement efforts to our continued environmental investments, it’s rewarding that the work we’re doing at the company today will benefit generations to come,” Griffith said. “We’re like a big family here, and our surrounding community is a valued extension of Trimble County Station.”
On the environmental front, Trimble County 2 is one of the cleanest coal-fired generating units in the nation, and recent environmental investments at the station were part of the company’s more than $2.8 billion construction program to further ensure continued environmental compliance with more stringent regulations.
