LG&E and KU honored again with ESGR Pro Patria Award

June 13, 2019

LG&E and KU Energy has once again been recognized for its outstanding support of employee military service. At a recent awards luncheon in Louisville, the company received the ESGR Pro Patria Award — the United States Defense Department's highest state-level award for providing support to employees serving in the Kentucky National Guard and Reserve.

The Pro Patria Award is presented annually by each ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) State Committee to one small, one large and one public sector employer in their state or territory. Recipients have demonstrated the greatest support to Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership and practices, including adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to participate in the National Guard and Reserve.

Manager of Staffing Services and Labor Relations Jessica Wilson, Recruitment Coordinator Shon Adams, and Director of Human Resources Stephanie Duncan recently accepted the ESGR Pro Patria Award on behalf of the company. This is the third consecutive year LG&E and KU have been honored with this recognition

This is the third consecutive year LG&E and KU have received the Pro Patria Award. In 2018 and 2019, the company also was a top finalist for the Department of Defense Freedom Award, the highest national recognition from ESGR.

The award luncheon included other nominated companies:

  • Fayette County Public Schools
  • M.P. Contractors
  • Versailles Police Department

The luncheon also included those serving the Guard who are employees of the nominated companies and National Guard and ESGR leadership.

Vice President-Human Resources Greg Meiman, Director of Human Resources Stephanie Duncan, Manager of Staffing Services and Labor Relations Jessica Wilson, and Recruitment Coordinator Shon Adams accepted the award on behalf of LG&E and KU.

"Receiving this award a third consecutive year demonstrates LG&E and KU's lasting commitment to supporting military employees," said Meiman. "Our employees and leadership take pride in our efforts to support our Reserve and National Guard member employees and their families, and we are very honored by ESGR's recognition of the company."

As a liaison between the Kentucky National Guard and Reserve and the state's public and private employers, ESGR's mission is to encourage companies to provide high levels of support to their employee reservists.
