The second array of our Solar Share program is now fully subscribed, and construction on the 500-kilowatt section – made up of more than 1,400 solar panels – will be completed this summer.
We recently announced a partnership with Kentucky Habitat for Humanity in which the organization will provide 10 eligible low-income families across Kentucky with subscriptions to the Solar Share program, offsetting a portion of each family’s utility bill for 25 years.
KU and LG&E customers still have the opportunity to join the program – consisting of eight planned sections – to support local solar energy, with subscriptions now being taken for the third array.
Signing up for the Solar Share program lets you support local solar energy, even if you are unable to install a system on your property or just prefer to avoid the cost and maintenance of installing a private system. There is no enrollment fee for Solar Share; just choose a subscription level and pay a monthly fee of $5.55 (less than 20 cents a day) for each 250-watt share or a one-time charge of $799 covering participation for 25 years. In exchange you’ll receive a credit on your monthly bill based on your subscription level and the amount of energy produced by the Solar Share facility.
The Solar Share site will ultimately be a four-megawatt solar field. It is located just off I-64 in Shelby County. Go to lge-ku.com/solar-share to sign up today.
