In honor of Veterans Day, LG&E and KU is celebrating its military veteran employees by profiling members of the company's Armed Forces Energy Partners (AFEP) Business Resource Group. AFEP's mission is to make LG&E and KU the employer of choice for veterans, reservists and guardsmen by developing an internal network of veteran employees and serving the veteran community as a whole.
Stephanie Hart, electrical engineer II, served in the United States Marine Corps as an aviation electrician technician for AV-8B, EA-6B and C-130 aircrafts.
After being honorably discharged, she attended the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering. While in school, Stephanie completed three internships in LG&E's Electric Distribution Operations Department. Upon graduating with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Hart was hired full time in 2018 by the company as an electrical engineer for Operations after a few years as a co-op.
As an ops engineer, her role has a variety of responsibilities, including conducting studies to determine which size equipment is best suited for customers. Hart also monitors circuits to ensure reliable energy from the substation down to the customer meter base and to correct any power quality issues that arise. Hart coordinates with different departments to accomplish any ongoing projects within budget, including cable replacement projects and reliability projects.
"I really appreciate the awesome support from fellow veterans I receive from AFEP and the incredibly caring events that express our many skills and traits learned during our time of service. Serving this country is an honor that cannot be taken. I am very proud to have had the opportunity."
