In honor of Veterans Day, LG&E and KU is celebrating its military veteran employees by profiling members of the company's Armed Forces Energy Partners (AFEP) Business Resource Group. AFEP's mission is to make LG&E and KU the employer of choice for veterans, reservists and guardsmen by developing an internal network of veteran employees and serving the veteran community as a whole.
Daniel Durbin, graduate intern, Corporate Purchasing, served seven years as an active duty Army officer. He began his military career in 2013 after commissioning from the University of Louisville as a second lieutenant (O-1). Durbin served as an Airborne Infantry platoon leader at Fort Polk, Louisiana; a Stryker Company executive officer at Fort Carson, Colorado; a battalion signal officer and Signal Company commander for the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and a Recruiting Company commander in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He completed his Army career as a captain (O-3) in October 2020.
Durbin is currently responsible for the acquisition of materials and media to major services through bidding and contracting initiatives. He appreciates his AFEP membership because of the strong community the group builds among military veteran employees. "This business resource group is important to me because it brings together a community of like-minded service members who value a strong sense of organizational camaraderie," said Durbin.
He and his wife, Shelby, reside in Bullitt County. Durbin is a full-time MBA student at the University of Louisville set to graduate in August of 2021. In his spare time, Durbin enjoys hiking, camping, hunting, fishing and working on his farm in Leitchfield, Kentucky.
