Charging down the road toward an electric vehicle future

August 1, 2022

We’re seeing more and more electric vehicles (EV) on the road as major manufacturers commit to producing more EVs and hybrids (vehicles that use both gas and electricity). Sept. 23–Oct. 2 is National Drive Electric Week, a time to focus on the advantages – and the affordability – of electric and plug-in hybrid cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. Learn more at driveelectricweek.org.

Thinking about buying an electric vehicle? Here are a few advantages that might help you make your decision. Electric vehicles:

  • Require a lot less maintenance than gas-powered ones. They don’t use oil. They don’t have spark plugs, mufflers or catalytic converters. Fewer moving parts = fewer repairs.
  • Are more environmentally friendly, producing much less carbon-dioxide-equivalent emissions.
  • Can get up to 300 miles on a single charge … and you can charge them at home (plus, more and more public charging stations are becoming available).
  • Have lower operating costs. With our electric rates, it’s like paying less than $1 for a gallon of gas.
