The volts are in: EVs are becoming more and more popular

July 20, 2023

The popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow across the country. National Drive Electric Week is Friday, Sept. 22, through Sunday, Oct. 1, a time set aside to highlight the benefits of EVs, as well as hybrid vehicles, which run on both electricity and gas. Here are a few of the advantages of driving electric.

  • Better for the air – EVs produce significantly less CO2- equivalent emissions than combustion engines.
  • Less maintenance – Forget about changing the oil; there isn’t any. And while we’re at it, you won’t find any spark plugs, mufflers or catalytic converters.
  • Saving cash – Our electric rates make it very cost-efficient to charge your EV. For comparison, how does paying less than $1 a gallon for gas sound?
  • Going the distance – On average, EVs get more than 200 miles on a single charge, with some going a hundred miles more than that. And you can conveniently charge your EV at home. Plus, more charging stations are being added across the country every year.

Major car manufacturers are committed to putting more electric vehicles on the road, and the cars have become much more affordable, even before significant rebates are factored in.

Our own fleet will include more EVs in the future as well, with plans to have a portion of our company vehicles be electric by 2030. Taken together, we have partnered to install more than 30 publicly available and privately hosted stations across our service territories in areas where people live, work or enjoy the local destinations.
