LG&E to host women in science and engineering expo

March 25, 2010

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Reinforcing a positive image and promoting the acceptance of women in science will be the focus of the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) expo, to be held this Friday, March 26, at the E.ON U.S. Center downtown.

Formed eight years ago at duPont Manual High School, WiSE encourages female involvement in math and science classes, starting at an early age. LG&E employees will host the WiSE expo, where the focus will be to encourage young girls to proactively pursue science and math careers.

By setting up the expo as a field trip for elementary-age students, WiSE hopes to encourage female participation as well as male acceptance of women in math and science classes and fields.

During the expo, students will participate in workshop stations administered by Dupont Manual's WiSE club members. 2010 marks the eighth year LG&E has hosted the event.
