Warm hearts and homes this winter with a HUG from LG&E and KU
November 28, 2011LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Looking for something unique — as well as practical — to give a loved one or your favorite nonprofit organization this holiday season?
Give the gift that everyone can appreciate this year: a Home Utility Gift (HUG) certificate from Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company.
A HUG is a certificate that credits the utility account of any LG&E or KU customer. Instead of working like a traditional gift certificate that can get lost or slowly depreciate over time, a HUG is an immediate credit placed directly on a customer's account that automatically subtracts from his or her next bill.
The certificates are available during normal business hours at all customer service walk-in centers. LG&E customers should visit the walk-in center located at 820 W. Broadway. KU customers can find a list of office locations at lge-ku.com.
Offices are open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; all offices are closed Friday, Dec. 23, in observance of the holiday. In order to credit the proper LG&E or KU account, it's helpful to have the address of the HUG recipient on hand.
Starting this year, HUG request forms can also be found at lge-ku.com. From the LG&E and KU website, simply download, fill out and return the completed form by mail with a check or money order for the amount of your HUG purchase.
HUG certificates can be mailed directly to the recipient, or the gift certificate can be mailed to the purchaser to present the HUG in person.
"These non-traditional gift certificates are the perfect gift idea for many shoppers because they are unique, convenient and very practical for any recipient," said John P. Malloy, vice president of Energy Delivery — Retail for LG&E and KU.
HUGs are especially ideal for families in need, senior citizens, and young people just starting out on their own. Many customers also have purchased HUGs for nonprofit and social service organizations to help them manage routine expenses throughout the year.
