January 12, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Officials of Kentucky Utilities Company were joined by state and local leaders from the area to open KU's new, consolidated business and operations center at Morganfield.

The 23,000-square-foot facility will house about 75 employees. The largest portion of those are in a new customer contact center that employs 34 now and will employ up to 54 by the end of the first quarter this year. The facility also consolidates KU's customer service business office representatives, western Kentucky economic development representative, line technicians, meter readers and field service personnel all under one roof. For customers, the facility also features ample parking, a walk-in center and a customer drive-up window. A storage facility for parts and equipment is also is on the grounds.

The cost of the entire project was $4.2 million.

The contact center is already fielding calls from across KU and LG&E's 94-county service territory, becoming the company's fourth center in Kentucky.

"Morganfield is an excellent site to expand our operations," said Chris Hermann, senior vice president of Energy Delivery for LG&E and KU Energy. "We already had a presence in the community and existing facilities here, and the central location makes this a prime location for another storm-management hub. And, as KU celebrates its 100th birthday later this year, this is a great place to kick off our second century of service to the state."

"The new facility will enhance our field operations and customer service capabilities," said John P. Malloy, vice president of Energy Delivery — Retail Business. "The addition of Morganfield to customer contact centers in Louisville, Lexington and Pineville will ensure customers continue to receive the excellent service to which they are accustomed."

The new center will primarily serve customers in northwest Kentucky, in an area north of the western Kentucky Parkway and west of the Pennyrile Parkway.
