New energy efficiency programs help customers earn incentives and save energy

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company announced today three new energy efficiency programs designed to help customers (including homeowners, renters and business owners) save energy and earn incentives.

“We’re proud to empower our customers to take advantage of these new and exciting programs,” said Shannon Montgomery, LG&E and KU vice president of Customer Services. “We’re constantly working to improve our array of energy efficiency programs that can meet the specific needs of customers in ways to help them earn incentives and save energy.”

The programs are part of LG&E and KU’s continued efforts to help customers use energy more wisely and save money, as well as helping the utilities reduce overall energy demand on the electric grid at peak times of day. The new programs include the following:

  • Peak Time Rebates: Residential and small business customers in Kentucky earn cash incentives when they voluntarily reduce their electric consumption (such as adjusting their thermostat, turning off some lights, delaying running the dishwasher, etc.) after receiving an alert during times of high energy demand.
  • Residential Rebates: Residential customers in Kentucky can receive cash rebates for purchasing and installing qualified ENERGY STAR®-certified equipment. For example, this includes certain central air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and heat pump water heaters.
  • Residential Online Audit and Kit: Residential customers in Kentucky can complete an online home assessment about their energy usage and uncover ways to save energy. They may also elect to receive a kit (mailed to their home) with energy saving items including water heater pipe insulation, caulking, and faucet aerators at no additional cost.

LG&E and KU first launched energy efficiency programs for customers in the early 1990s, and in 2023, began rolling out the largest suite of programs in the company’s history. The programs — including Peak Time Rebates, Residential Rebates and Residential Online Audit and Kit — range from incentivizing energy-saving improvements; offsetting costs for new, smart technologies; to making repairs and upgrades for homeowners and renters who meet the eligibility requirements.

LG&E and KU customers can quickly and easily sign up for these programs by using their My Account, as a guest user, or by phone. These programs join many other tools to help LG&E and KU customers.
