In October 2011, the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) adopted a new rule enacted by the Virginia General Assembly to promote public health and safety. The regulation, effective October 31, 2011, allows qualifying ODP customers an additional 30 days from the due date of the original termination notice before their electric service is disconnected. Specifically, the regulation allows:
In essence, the regulation provides additional time for an ODP residential customer to make payment arrangements with ODP or make arrangements for housing or medical care.
