Give the gift of solar

LG&E and KU Solar Share participants can support local solar energy in Kentucky that helps power our community in more ways than one.

In addition to supporting renewable energy and meeting sustainability goals, participants can also "gift" their solar shares to another person, business, or nonprofit organization important to them. Once the solar share has been “gifted”, that selected recipient receives the credits1 generated from the solar production for the next 25 years. For customers who have renewable energy and corporate responsibility goals, but don’t have the time or up-front investment to install solar on their roof or on their site, Solar Share "gifting" is a great option.

The Gift of Solar Features and Benefits

  • Receive bill credits1 on your monthly energy bill for the next 25 years.
  • Meet your renewable energy goals with minimal effort and commitment while also supporting an individual customer or a non-profit organization by "gifting" the solar energy credits to the recipient of your choosing.
  • Support local solar that helps power our community.
  • Avoid the upfront costs and long-term maintenance required for a private system.
  • The recipient of the solar energy credits1 will also receive an advanced meter to access a portal and view their live solar data and other energy insights.

Solar Share gift guidelines

  • Only one-time subscription solar share enrollments are eligible to be a gift.
  • Your one-time subscription means the recipient of the bill credits1 will see those credits1 on their bills for the next 25 years.
  • You can choose to purchase one or more shares within the one-time subscription level based on your preference but if purchasing more than one share, you must purchase in increments of $799, i.e. $799, $1,598. $2,397 $3,196, etc.
  • We are accepting enrollment to our current section2 in Simpsonville. Once we have reached 100% subscription for this section2, we will begin construction. Once construction is complete, the recipient of your solar share gift will start receiving bill credits1 from the solar energy array produces.
  • Recipient must consent to receive bill credits.
  • Each 250-watt share of solar costs $799 and is expected to yield between 18 and 38 kilowatt-hours of energy per month. Factors such as weather conditions and time of year can have a slight impact on the production of the array.
  • If you are gifting your shares to a non-profit or individual, they must be within your same service territory meaning Louisville-based LG&E customers can only gift to other Louisville customers and if you are outside of Louisville, KU customers can only gift shares to other KU customers.
  • The term "shares" does not create or imply any ownership or investment interest.
  • Consult with your tax representative for deduction information.
  • Gifting monies are non-refundable and will be collected prior to the array being constructed.
