Vice President-Gas Operations, LG&E and KU

Tom Rieth

Tom Rieth was named to his current position in March of 2024. He has more than 22 years in the gas and electric industry.

Rieth joined LG&E and KU company in 2001 as an engineer at Magnolia Gas Compressor Station, was promoted to group leader of Gas Regulatory Services, then manager of Muldraugh Gas Storage. In 2013, he was named director of Gas Operations, Construction and Engineering, where he was responsible for the leadership, direction and oversight of gas construction, operation, maintenance and engineering for the gas distribution system.

In his current role, Rieth is responsible for the safe, reliable, compliant and strategic operation of LG&E’s natural gas transmission and distribution systems and the delivery of low-cost gas to customers. He oversees natural gas supply forecast and purchasing, gas control, and operation of LG&E’s Muldraugh and Magnolia compressor stations and four underground storage fields. Rieth also has responsibility for ensuring the company complies with all regulatory requirements related to the safety and integrity of the natural gas system.

Prior to coming to LG&E and KU, Rieth worked as a production engineer at Arch Chemicals. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Louisville and has his Professional Engineer License in Kentucky.

Rieth is a member of the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood House in Louisville and is also on the University of Louisville Center of Infrastructure Research (CIR) Advisory Board.  Rieth is also on the Kentucky Gas Association (KGA) Board of Directors and on American Gas Association (AGA) and Southern Gas Association (SGA) committees.
