Fridge and freezer recycling program - how it works

Step 1 - Sign Up. The deadline is Nov. 16, 2018, so act fast to participate!

Appointments are limited and offered on a first-come, first served basis. Customers may sign up by logging into My Account or by calling 800-356-5467.

Step 2 - Schedule Appointment.

After you sign up, our program partner, ARCA, Inc., will contact you to schedule a pick-up time. Weekday, evening and Saturday appointments are available. Someone at least 18 years or older must be present during the appointment. In advance of your pick-up time, please make sure the unit is empty and accessible for removal.

Step 3 - Haul Away.

A trained team from ARCA will meet you at your home to remove and haul away your fridge(s) or freezer(s). The ARCA representatives will carry a LG&E or KU contractor badge for identification. During the appointment, you must be able to show that the appliance is in working condition which is a requirement for this program.

Step 4 - Recycling.

Our team will then deliver your appliance(s) to a recycling facility at no additional charge. The appliances are carefully disassembled so the metals, plastics, glass, foam insulation, PCBs, CFC-12 refrigerant and used oil can be properly recycled.

Step 5 - Receive $50.

In return for reducing energy consumption and recycling that old refrigerator or freezer, customers receive $50 (check or pre-paid Visa card) per recycled appliance within six to eight weeks. They’ll also enjoy the long-term benefits of using less energy.

LG&E and KU Energy LLC reserves the right to revise program requirements and incentive levels at any time. Incentives are subject to availability.
