Providing safe, reliable and low-cost service – on the hottest days and the coldest nights – is what we do every day and have done for more than 100 years. Each season we evaluate our system and make necessary adjustments to help improve reliability.
In preparation for winter, we have reviewed and implemented our power plant cold weather plans, installed software upgrades that will allow our Trimble County Generating Station natural gas turbines to operate at lower gas pressures and installed weather protection around gas regulators supplying the gas turbines at our E.W. Brown Generating Station in Mercer County. We’ve completed the natural gas injections at our storage fields, and our natural gas provider, Texas Gas Transmission Company, has upgraded its equipment and operating procedures as well.
In addition, our long-term investments in our distribution and transmission systems, including stronger poles, wires and automated equipment, have reduced the frequency and duration of power outages by about 45% and 35%, respectively, since 2011, excluding major events.
As always, our crews and business partners stand ready to respond if Mother Nature takes a turn for the worse. When that happens, please monitor our social media channels and visit our outages page, or use our mobile app to access our outage map and view information on reporting outages and our restoration process.
