With winter almost here, are your detectors ready?

As colder temps arrive, you’ll be spending more hours inside with family and friends. And that makes it a great time to ensure your home’s smoke detectors and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are ready to do their jobs. After all, if a fire or carbon monoxide leak strikes your home, especially in the middle of the night, these detectors can be literal lifesavers.

Batteries for smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors should be changed annually, and each device should be tested monthly. According to the National Safety Council, carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every five years, with smoke detectors replaced every 10 years.

So, give yourself and your family a little extra peace of mind. Make sure your detectors are up to the task all year long – not just this winter.
