Our 2022 tree seedling giveaway

In honor of Earth Day, Kentucky Utilities will support the environment by giving away approximately 1,500 Witch hazel seedlings at five locations in Kentucky, on April 22 beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern time while supplies last. Mature Witch hazel trees have yellow blossoms in the late fall and are native to Kentucky.

Seedlings can be picked up at the following locations:

*Note:  Giveaways will take place until the seedling supply lasts, which is usually until late morning.

The seedling giveaway program supports the Call Before You Dig (811) initiative and encourages planting native trees in appropriate locations through The Right Tree in The Right Place program. Falling tree limbs on lines is one of the major causes of power outages. Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) has a maximum mature height of about 15 feet, so planting that tree in the right place means it will grow without limbs reaching the electric lines.
