Our lawn mowing equipment has four legs and doesn’t need gas

Spring is almost here, and you know what that means: The Shaker Village sheep are coming b-a-a-ck to our E.W. Brown Generating Station in Harrodsburg, Ky., to maintain the vegetation around the plant’s 44,000 solar panels. The solar facility – the largest in Kentucky – encompasses 50 acres with more than 100 sheep from nearby Shaker Village on the job each spring and summer to help make sure there is no overgrown vegetation that could interfere with the panels’ operation. The all-natural, environmentally friendly “mowing” crew will be on the job for the next several months, returning to Shaker Village in the fall. Shaker Village manages the sheep’s overall care, shears them and sells the wool to a local vendor.

You can catch the sheep in action at the solar facility by visiting our “Ewetube” channel at lge-ku.com/sheep. While visiting the website, you may want to consider purchasing the children’s book Levi the Lamb about a day in the life of one of the sheep. All proceeds directly benefit Shaker Village.
