These tips will give you the power to help reduce your monthly bill

Who doesn’t like saving money? One of the easiest ways you can do that is to take some basic energy-saving steps in your home.

  • Lighting the way – Replace incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs. And remember to turn off lights when no one is in the room – leaving lights on just wastes energy.
  • Washing the load – Use cold water as much as you can when doing the laundry. The bulk of energy used when washing comes from using hot water. And always do a full load. Your washing machine (and your dryer, too) uses the same amount of energy for a full load and a partial load.
  • Circulating the air – If you have a ceiling fan, remember to set it to run counterclockwise in the summer and clockwise in the winter. And, like lights, turn it off when no one is in the room. Ceiling fans cool people, not rooms.

In addition to the tips above, weather is obviously a factor as well when it comes to energy usage.

  • Minding the temp – Set your thermostat on 78 degrees Fahrenheit during the warmer months and 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the colder months. If you have a programmable thermostat, you can be even more energy efficient by setting it higher/lower during times when no one is going to be home.
  • Letting the sun in...or not – During hotter weather, close blinds, curtains and shades. Keep them open during colder weather so the sunlight can provide some warmth.
