Don’t wait until the last minute to get ready for what’s coming

We get it...nobody wants to be thinking about cold weather now. But it’s coming and will be here before you know it. Now’s the time to make sure your heating system is ready. Don’t get caught off guard when a cold snap comes.

  • Time for that checkup – It’s a good idea to have your system given the once-over by a trained professional. Special note: If you use a heat pump, your best bet is to leave it set to auxiliary heat because it’s much more energy efficient. When your thermostat is on the heat setting, auxiliary heat will automatically kick in when needed.
  • Change is good – We’re talking about your furnace filter. Change it or clean it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A dirty filter works harder, using more energy and costing you more money.
  • Let ’em breathe – Baseboard heaters, radiators and registers need to be clean and free of any obstructions, such as furniture.

And if you’re thinking about upgrading to a new heating system, consider an ENERGY STAR® certified model. You may pay more initially, but significant energy efficiency savings will offset that cost over time.
