Report a streetlight outage

A row of streetlights against a background of a twilight sky with wispy clouds.

LG&E and KU are responsible for more than 280,000 streetlights in our service territories. Streetlights are important for safety in our communities. While we regularly inspect our streetlights, we also rely on the people who live and work nearby to let us know when a streetlight is out.

If a pole is leaning or down, or you can see exposed wires, call us immediately so we can send a crew. Stay away from the pole and any wires, and keep others away. Always assume any downed wire is an energized power line. Call 911 if the situation is an emergency. LG&E: 502-589-1444 or 800-331-7370 (fast path 1-1-3). KU/ODP: 800-981-0600 (fast path 1-1-2)

The best way to report a streetlight outage is by using our Streetlight Outage Map.

Before submitting a request, please note:

  • We only repair streetlights owned by LG&E and KU.
  • We do not repair streetlights on highways. If the streetlight is located along a highway, you should report it to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet at transportation.ky.gov. Click “Contact,” then “Report a Hazard.”
  • We do not repair streetlights on business properties. A nonworking light on a business property should be reported directly to the business.
  • Some streetlights are owned and maintained by local governments or homeowners’ associations.
  • Not sure who owns the streetlight? You can still report it, and we’ll review it.

Frequently Asked Questions

General questions

If there’s a large-scale outage event, do I need to report streetlight outages too?

No. During a large-scale outage event – due to storms, for example – streetlights may not be working and may come back on during the restoration process. If, however, you notice that the streetlight remains out even after most power is restored, report it via the outage map linked above.

How do I request outdoor lighting in my area?

We offer a variety of outdoor LED lighting options for residential, business and industrial customers.

Streetlight outage map questions

Do only poles owned by LG&E and KU appear on the map?

Yes. The map will only show poles owned by LG&E and KU. Poles owned or leased by other entities will not appear on the map.

Can I see if a streetlight outage has already been reported for a particular streetlight?

Yes. Green icons on the map represent streetlights owned by LG&E, KU and ODP that are currently operating. If the icon is red, that means someone has already reported an outage for that streetlight. You do not need to submit an additional request.

If I’ve reported a streetlight outage, can I see the status of the repair on the map?

No. You can only see that the streetlight is still broken (via the red icon). The map will not display further details about its repair status. However, the red icon will turn back to green once the streetlight has been successfully repaired.

I’m already logged in to My Account. Can I report a streetlight outage there?

Yes! In My Account, find the Service Orders section and click Street Lights to submit a form.
