Bullitt County Pipeline Project

Last updated January 2025

  • As part of our company’s long-term system enhancement projects, we’re constructing a new 12-mile natural gas pipeline to serve Bullitt County. This project was approved in 2017 by the Kentucky Public Service Commission but has been delayed while we finalized the permitting processes and due to litigation.
  • Bullitt County is experiencing exceptional growth. The added capacity will support continued growth and economic development within the region.
  • We’ve had to defer requests for new or expanded natural gas service in this area since July 2019 because the existing natural gas pipeline at full capacity.
  • We’ve obtained all remaining state and federal environmental and regulatory permits required to start work, and within the next few weeks, LG&E and our contract partners will begin construction.
  • Once completed, this pipeline will help enhance reliability for about 9,500 LG&E natural gas customers who currently have service and provide added capacity necessary to serve ongoing growth within the region.
  • The new pipeline will enhance reliability for current customers by creating an additional path for natural gas traveling through the system to residents and businesses in the area, reducing the chances of customers in the area experiencing an outage.
  • Preliminary work, such as tree clearing and surveying, will happen first, followed by the main pipeline construction.  After construction is complete, restoration activities will begin. The project work will be completed safely and as quickly as possible.
  • Please be aware you may also see our crews and contractors working along Kentucky Highway 245 starting at the Interstate 65 interchange. This is a separate project to support Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s widening of Highway 245. The cabinet requires LG&E to relocate our existing natural gas pipelines in the area along Highway 245.
  • We are committed to keeping our customers and the community informed as this project continues, and anyone interested in the project can visit lge-ku.com/bullitt-county-pipeline for the latest updates.
