National Consumer Protection Week arrives March 2–8, but you should stay alert every day of the year with scams growing in sophistication. Here are just a few ways to tell if someone might be trying to scam you.
- We will never make a live phone call demanding payment or threatening to cut off power if immediate payment isn’t made.
- We’ll never ask for bill payment via prepaid debit/gift cards or payment app.
- We won’t send someone to your home to demand payment.
- We’ll never contact you to ask for personal information such as credit/debit card numbers or checking account information.
If anyone claiming to be from our company reaches out to you – whether it’s in person or via call, text or email – and demands immediate payment, it’s a scam, plain and simple.
While there are legitimate reasons we may need to visit your home or business, we would never visit to collect payment. When someone visits and claims to be from our company, first ask to see their company ID. Each of our employees and contractors carries an authentic company ID badge featuring their name, a color photo and the company logo.
Also remember that you can always check the status of your account through a variety of ways:
- Sign in to your online account (My Account) at my.lge-ku.com.
- Use our free mobile app. (Download it using the QR code in this newsletter or by searching “LG&E KU ODP” in app stores.)
- Call our automated phone system and press 1-2-1.
Finally, if you think you’ve been scammed, report it to the police immediately. Then visit our scam reporting page and fill out our form.
