Each year, scam artists get more creative in their efforts to separate you from your hard-earned money. To support National Scam Awareness Week happening this November, here are some tips to help you catch the scammers before they catch you.
First, here are things our company will never do:
- Send anyone from our company to your home to demand payment.
- Make a phone call (live or automated) demanding payment.
- Request payment in the form of prepaid debit cards or gift cards.
- Call to ask for a customer’s debit card, credit card, checking account details or other personal information.
The bottom line is that if anyone claiming to be with our company calls you and demands immediate payment, they’re trying to scam you (even if the caller ID says it’s us). Hang up immediately and know that we partner with telephone companies to disconnect the phone numbers used by these criminals. We also report fraudulent websites to authorities, including law enforcement and the state’s attorney general’s office.
If you want to ensure your bill gets paid securely, you’ve got options. You can use your online My Account or our mobile app. (by searching “LG&E KU ODP” in app stores.)
Prefer to pay your bill by phone? Simply call our automated phone line and press 1-2-3. You can also check your balance 24/7 via My Account, through our mobile app or by calling our automated line above and pressing 1-2-1.
If you feel you may have been a victim of a utility scam, first report it to your local police and then let us know by visiting lge-ku.com/report/scam. You can also visit lge-ku.com/safety/scams for more scam prevention information, including examples of the latest scams reported to us.
