In honor of Veterans Day, LG&E and KU is celebrating its military veteran employees by profiling members of the company's Armed Forces Energy Partners (AFEP) Business Resource Group. AFEP's mission is to make LG&E and KU the employer of choice for veterans, reservists and guardsmen by developing an internal network of veteran employees and serving the veteran community as a whole.
Robert Thomas, LG&E and KU controls specialist II in Generation Services since August 2017, has served both in Active Duty Air Force and in the Kentucky Air National Guard, participating in two deployments to the Middle East. During his 13-year military career, Thomas transitioned through multiple Information Technology positions.
Thomas has more than 13 years of experience with network architecture, server administration, network management, physical and cybersecurity systems, patch management, records management and various software systems. His most recent assignment was as a cybersystems operations craftsman with the Kentucky Air National Guard.
As part of LG&E and KU's Compliance and Document Management team, Thomas ensures Generation Services' compliance with Critical Infrastructure Protection standards, working with personnel from every plant to ensure the safety and reliability of the Bulk Electric System.
Thomas earned an associate's degree in applied science and information systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He had previously obtained a Security+ certification and is working toward completing his bachelor's degree as well as obtaining additional certifications.
Thomas resides in Crestwood, Kentucky, with his wife, Lauren, also an LG&E and KU employee, and their two children. They are active members of Southeast Christian Church.
