LG&E and KU and its foundation have a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the communities they serve. Nonprofit organizations can request program or event funding support during the foundation’s two grant cycles each year (March and October). Here are highlights from just a few of the recent incredible grant awardees, showcasing the impact foundation dollars had on their important missions.
- Adelante Hispanic Achievers, Inc., strives to provide services and support for the growing Latino student population in Louisville’s educational system. Last year, Adelante celebrated its largest-ever group of seniors graduating from the Mentoring & Enrichment program, which prepares students for success beyond high school.
- CAFCA Cares, Inc., a nonprofit in the ODP service territory, created the Utilities Payment Program with support from the LG&E and KU Foundation. Last year, the program provided nearly $5,000 in utility assistance to 40 families. This year, the available support has nearly doubled, allowing for even greater assistance to those in need.
- CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of Lexington relies on volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers go through training, are sworn in by a judge and then are assigned to children involved in local family court cases. LG&E and KU sponsors the CASA Superhero Run, which raises funds to recruit and train more CASA volunteers to support children in need across the state. Last year, with the help of 275 volunteers, CASA served 673 children.
- Metro United Way and the LG&E and KU Foundation have a longstanding partnership, and their combined impact last year was monumental. Metro United Way and 136 community volunteers built 223 beds and provided them to students who did not have beds to call their own. LG&E and KU employees also participated in The Greatest Giveback where 12,798 impact kits – filled with hygiene products and other essentials – were created and distributed to 72 nonprofit partners.
- Lastly, the LG&E and KU Foundation donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross to help families and area residents recover from devastating and historic floods earlier this year. This helped impacted communities with shelter, food, critical services, financial assistance and cleanup efforts.
