Supporting our community nonprofits

May 19, 2026

The LG&E and KU Foundation supports hundreds of nonprofits year-round while partnering with local organizations that are making a meaningful difference across the communities we serve.

The Foundation invests in programs benefiting children, artists and individuals preparing for future careers, including partnership examples listed below:

  • Literacy and early learning were highlighted at the Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning.
  • Back to School Bash in Lexington. During the summer event, more than 200 children and 100 adults gathered for a morning of activities that celebrated the return to school. Each child received a free backpack filled with school supplies.
  • I Would Rather Be Reading is a Louisville‑based nonprofit dedicated to improving literacy and creating safe, enriching learning spaces for children. With the help of an LG&E and KU Foundation grant, the organization stocked its materials room with art supplies, snacks and essential items that strengthened summer and fall programming.
  • Through the LG&E and KU Plant for the Planet Grant, the Parklands of Floyds Fork planted trees in erosion‑prone and streambank areas, improving soil stability, protecting water quality and enhancing biodiversity. These efforts support long‑term ecological health while serving as a regional example of sustainable watershed management.
  • The Foundation supported the Marnel C. Moorman Family Life Center Summer Enrichment Program. The Shelby County center served 35 students between third and 10th grade, offering a season filled with hands-on learning, outdoor exploration and creative play.
