LG&E and KU employees volunteer in various ways
(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — Today, employees of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company served in various ways to help communities in an enterprise-wide Day of Caring for LG&E and KU. Some of their volunteer work included jobs such as serving meals, stocking shelves and packing boxes for local non-profit organizations.
“We’re proud of the generosity our employees show on a daily basis,” said LG&E and KU President John R. Crockett. “The Day of Caring demonstrates our company’s commitment to the communities where our employees live and work. It’s one way we can all work together to be better stewards of the environment and help strengthen the communities we serve.”
Day of Caring is part of LG&E and KU’s annual employee-giving campaign called Power of One, which brings together monetary giving and volunteer work. Last year, the company’s Power of One Campaign raised more than $2 million thanks to voluntary contributions from employees and additional support from the LG&E and KU Foundation. Nearly 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in the campaign through recurrent payroll deductions — a participation rate that is more than twice the national average for employee payroll donation in charitable giving.
The Day of Caring is just one day in a culture of volunteer work at LG&E and KU. Employees report volunteering more than 20,000 hours of service in their communities annually.
As part of today’s effort, LG&E and KU employees volunteered at the following locations:
In Louisville
Lord's Kitchen Ministries (serving meals and assisting with family shopping experience)
Passionist Earth & Spirit Center (gardening and weeding)
St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry (helping fill bags with donated food items, getting produce items together and stocking shelves)
St. Vincent de Paul Open Hand Kitchen (serving lunches)
In Lexington
Bluegrass Area Chapter Red Cross (filling “Home Fire Campaign” buckets and preparing materials for “Sound the Alarm” event)
Lexington Rescue Mission (sorting clothing and supplies; moving furniture)
UK Arboretum (completing outside work)
In Elizabethtown
