Emergency responder safety

At LG&E and KU, we are keenly aware of the special nature of the work performed by emergency management agencies, such as police, fire and EMS. Your role, like ours, is critical to ensuring the safety of everyone in the communities we serve.

Because we recognize the importance of working together and the critical link between our company and your agency, we developed a guide which contains important information about our services and outlines the process for reaching us in emergency situations.

LG&E personnel are available upon request to assist with drills and exercises to prevent and prepare for natural gas and electric emergencies.  Please contact us at safety.info@lge-ku.com or call 502-627-2087.

Safety information for emergency responders

Emergency responders can become e-SMARTresponders. Becoming e-SMART means learning about electricity and natural gas, and how to respond safely to a natural gas or electric emergency.

Live line electrical safety exhibit

We take our mobile electrical safety exhibit across our service territory to educate first responders, contractors, businesses, school students and the public how to stay safe around electricity. The exhibit is a scaled-down 7200-volt electrical distribution system featuring live electrical wires, utility poles, and transformers. Our trained employees use ladders, gloves, and other tools in a controlled environment to show what happens when those items come in contact with live electrical lines.
