An accurate bill depends on an accurate reading of your meter. You can help make sure our technicians get an accurate reading by providing easy access to your meter. Getting to your meter is also important for maintenance, responding to any emergencies (e.g., power outages), repairing damage or dealing with safety hazards.
We need to access your meter 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but 24-hour access is preferable because emergencies don’t adhere to any set schedule. Follow these rules to make sure our technicians can get to your meter:
- Maintain at least six feet of clearance in the front of the meter.
- Maintain at least two feet of clearance on either side of the meter.
- Do not put any plants or shrubs in the immediate vicinity of the meter.
- Never put a meter in a crawl space.
If you have a locked gate or a dog in your meter area, please have the meter accessible during your meter reading dates. Don’t know when your meter is being read? Just check your bill for the next scheduled meter reading. If we can’t get to your meter, the bill will be estimated for that month. After the next actual meter reading, your bill will correct any difference (higher or lower) between the actual reading and the estimate, and you will be charged for the energy you actually used.
