Some money-saving home projects in preparation for the change of seasons

It’s getting to be that time of year when you start thinking about certain home projects as the weather turns from hot to cool (and eventually cold) so that you can keep your home comfortable … and save some money on your monthly utility bill. A couple of those projects could be:

• Adding insulation – With just a flashlight and your eyes, check to make sure your attic is well insulated. If insulation is not to the top of the joists, you probably need more. It’s also a good idea to check your basement, crawl space and exterior walls. Consider consulting a professional – who can help determine the type and amount of insulation you’ll need – for installation.
• Sealing air leaks – Check windows and exterior doors for any gaps where air can get in. Look for outside cracks as well. Then, if needed, apply caulk or weather stripping to seal the leak.
