If we can’t find your meter, our tech can’t be a reader

April 3, 2020

You can help make sure the charge on your monthly bill is correct with one simple step – by providing easy access to your meter. That lets our technicians get accurate readings, and any needed maintenance can be taken care of more easily.

Meters must be accessible between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but 24-hour access is preferable. Being able to get to your meter at any time allows our technicians to respond to emergencies (such as power outages), repair damaged equipment or deal with safety hazards.

For easy access, meters should have a minimum of six feet of clearance in the front and two feet of clearance on either side. They should not be obscured by plants or shrubs and should never be in crawl spaces or behind locked fences.

To find out when your next meter-reading window will be, look at the top section of your paper bill or sign in to your online account to view your Meter Read Schedule. If you have a locked gate or a dog in the area of your meter, we rely on you to help ensure our technician has access on the day your meter is scheduled to be read.
