Site Selection names LG&E and KU a “Top 20” U.S. utility

October 6, 2020

Once again, Site Selection magazine, an international publication focused on economic development, has named LG&E and KU among an elite group of the Top 20 utilities in the U.S. for corporate facility investment and job creation in 2019. The evaluation included a field of approximately 3,300 electric utilities across the country.

LG&E and KU was recognized for several significant efforts to promote economic development in 2019, which led to customer capital investment of more than $2.8 billion and the creation of more than 5,700 jobs.

In addition, the company’s Economic Development Rider, which is designed to promote economic development efforts and encourage brownfield redevelopment, assisted seven companies with $1.4 million in demand-reduction credits on their electric utility bills and assisted in positive location/expansion decisions.

Newer efforts include working with communities to evaluate the possibility of new industrial and commercial sites throughout our service territories while also helping to evaluate existing sites to determine if additional investment may increase exposure to local communities. The company is also developing a grant program to incentivize communities to make proactive investments in product readiness and development.
