Veterans Day Profile: Shon Adams

​In honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, LG&E and KU is celebrating its military veteran employees by profiling members of the company's Armed Forces Energy Partners (AFEP) Business Resource Group. AFEP's mission is to make LG&E and KU the employer of choice for veterans, reservists and guardsmen by developing an internal network of veteran employees and serving the veteran community as a whole.

 

​​​​​​Shon Adams, manager of Inclusion and Employee Engagement, has been with LG&E and KU since November 2018. Adams retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard as a colonel — the first Black active duty guardsman to be promoted to the rank of colonel — and transitioned into corporate human resources. Throughout his 31-year military career, he held a variety of leadership and staff positions, and he has more than 20 years of HR experience, ranging from human capital management, to strategic thinking and planning, and change management processes. His final assignment was director of HR with the Kentucky Army National Guard.

Adams began at the company as a recruitment coordinator, and as the military and veteran engagement specialist, focusing on recruiting and sourcing professionals for diverse military talent. In his current role as manager for Inclusion and Employee Engagement, he focuses on the company's diversity and inclusion strategy through relationships with key stakeholders, inclusion goals aligned with strategic talent management and business objectives.

Adams earned a bachelor's degree in police administration from the University of Louisville, and a master's degree in military strategic studies from the United States Army War College, a course that less than 1% of the officer corps is selected to attend. He also earned specialized certification from the Society for Human Resource Management Certification.

Adams is active with various school and community organizations, including board membership on the Kentucky Veterans Trust Fund. He also is a member at large of the Veterans Community Alliance of Louisville, a guiding team member for the Academies of Louisville, and a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.

Adams resides in Louisville with his wife, Casey, where they are devoted parents to three daughters, along with their fur-baby, Cletus Aurelius. They are active members of Northeast Christian Church.
