We are continuously making investments in our electric system to provide safe, reliable, low-cost energy with fewer interruptions. No one likes power outages. Through technology upgrades, we are better able to detect outages and reduce their duration when they do occur. 

Today, thanks to automated controls along power lines – a program that began in 2017 known as Distribution Automation – we can more quickly detect an outage, reroute power to isolate the situation and restore service to as many customers as possible much sooner. We can also dispatch our technicians to sites earlier to make any necessary repairs. 

  • Since 2011 we have reduced the frequency and duration of outages by more than 40%. 
  • Nearly three quarters of our customers are served by the improved automated circuits. 
  • Technology advances have helped avoid more than 186,000 service interruptions and nearly 32 million minutes of interruptions. 

Additionally, the evolution of the Distribution Automation program has created new jobs for engineers and operators in our control centers.
