Giving back to the communities we live in and serve

November 20, 2023

As a company, we host volunteer events for our employees to give back to their communities. Our employees also volunteer outside company-sponsored events – in fact, employees report volunteering more than 20,000 hours of service in their communities annually. Here are just a couple of examples of what our employees do.

  • In September, numerous employees participated in an enterprise-wide Day of Caring. Some of their volunteer work included serving meals, stocking shelves, and packing boxes and backpacks for local nonprofit organizations such as Feeding America, The Lord’s Kitchen and the Bluegrass Area Chapter of the Red Cross. Day of Caring is part of LG&E and KU’s annual employee-giving campaign called Power of One, which brings together monetary giving and volunteer work.
  • For more than 45 years, Ghent Generating Station and Trimble County Generating Station employees and retirees in Kentucky have run the chains (Chain Gang) every Friday night during football season at Carroll County High School home games. “Time is always a precious gift we have,” said Ghent Maintenance Planner John Spenneberg. “Learning how to balance work, home life and volunteering for the community is hard but very rewarding. We have a great deal of fun on Friday nights.”
