Making an impact on our communities

November 19, 2024

Our employees have been busy giving back to the communities that we live in and serve. Here are just a few examples of our culture of year-round volunteer work.

  • In July, employees packaged 2,000 backpacks, including notebooks, folders, pens, pencils and other items, for the 23rd Annual Operation School Drive. The backpacks were distributed to community service organizations, including Feed the City and Southwest Community Ministries, plus various school resource centers in and around Jefferson County and Trimble County.
  • Also in July, the company and the LG&E and KU Foundation supported the Back to School Rallies hosted by the YMCA of Central Kentucky – where 4,000 backpacks were distributed from various locations to area students – and the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning’s “Back 2 School Bash” in Lexington.
  • In September, nearly 200 employees came together in 13 locations across our service area for the company’s annual Day of Caring volunteer event. Employees engaged in various activities, including planting trees, painting, beautifying school grounds and packing emergency food boxes for seniors and veterans. This is the kick-off event to the annual Power of One giving campaign, which allows employees to designate donations to charitable organizations within the campaign. The LG&E and KU Foundation then matches those donations dollar for dollar.
  • In November, employees prepared and delivered free weatherization kits to homes of Jefferson County customers as part of the 42nd annual Project Warm Blitz. Teams also installed weatherizing plastic on windows in the homes of elderly and disabled clients to help them prepare for winter weather.
