The LG&E and KU Foundation: powering community impact

February 27, 2025

At LG&E and KU, we're more than just your energy provider. We're your neighbors, and we're committed to making our communities the best they can be. Through the LG&E and KU Foundation, we're proud to support non-profit organizations that are making a real difference in the lives of our customers and their families.

Every year, the LG&E and KU Foundation awards grants to a variety of non-profit organizations that are working to address critical needs in our communities.

Here are highlights from some of the incredible 2024 grant awardees, showcasing the impact Foundation dollars had on their important missions.

  • Helping Students Succeed: The LG&E and KU Foundation supports programs like Adelante Hispanic Achievers, which helps Latino students prepare for college and careers, and College Mentors for Kids, which provides mentorship opportunities for elementary school students.
  • Providing Essential Services: Through organizations like CAFCA Cares and Central Louisville Community Ministries, the LG&E and KU Foundation helps families in need pay their utility bills and access other vital resources.
  • Protecting Vulnerable Children: The LG&E and KU Foundation is a proud sponsor of the CASA Superhero Run, which raises funds to support abused and neglected children in Kentucky.
  • Building Stronger Communities: From constructing homes with Hardin County Habitat for Humanity to restoring natural spaces at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, the LG&E and KU Foundation invests in projects that enhance the quality of life for everyone.
  • Promoting the Arts and Culture: The LG&E and KU Foundation's support of Kentucky Shakespeare allows thousands of people to experience the magic of live theater, free of charge.

These are just a few examples of the many ways the LG&E and KU Foundation is working to make a positive impact in our communities. Nonprofit organizations can request programmatic or event funding support during the Foundation's two grant cycles each year.

In addition, LG&E and KU’s Power of One is also part of the companywide campaign led by parent company PPL Corporation. Employees and retirees from PPL Corporation and its subsidiaries, LG&E and KU, PPL Electric Utilities and Rhode Island Energy contribute to the companywide campaign. Together with matching contributions from PPL’s affiliated foundations, the campaign raised nearly $9 million to support nearly 500 local nonprofit organizations this year.

And our employees’ generosity goes far beyond financial contributions; every year LG&E and KU employees volunteer more than 20,000 hours in service to non-profit organizations in the communities we proudly serve.
