Workers volunteer at several agencies in Kentucky
(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — Today, nearly 200 employees of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company volunteered with 13 local organizations to help serve communities across the company’s service area in an enterprise-wide Day of Caring. The work included packing medical supply boxes, sorting supplies at food pantries, planting trees, doing yard work and painting.
“Our generous employees really care about the communities we serve,” said Mary Kate Gray, manager of Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs. “The Day of Caring is a perfect opportunity to try to help these organizations who do so much every day to help others.”
The Day of Caring is one aspect of LG&E and KU’s employee-giving campaign called Power of One, which combines volunteer work and financial contributions. For the last six years, the company’s Power of One Campaign has raised more than $2 million through voluntary donations from employees and additional support from the LG&E and KU Foundation.
While employees have been giving for decades, the Power of One campaign began in 2005 and has raised nearly $35 million. Nearly 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in the campaign through recurrent payroll deductions, which is more than twice the national average for employee payroll participation rate for charitable giving. Overall, LG&E and KU employees report volunteering more than 20,000 hours of service combined in their communities each year.
For today’s Day of Caring, LG&E and KU employees volunteered at the following locations:
