What do you do at LG&E and KU, and how does your work help customers?
I serve the company as line supervisor where I lead crew members in overhead and underground projects for new growth, maintenance, and upgrades to existing infrastructure where needed. After hours, I serve as a lead contact for storm response and trouble calls to make repairs. We are the direct leaders in the field that customers see and work with directly.
What does the community you serve mean to you?
I have been blessed to work with great examples of people who served this community and company before me. That’s a big reason I chose my career path: because of the prior leaders before me serving this community. I am hoping I can help carry the torch. We carry a great responsibility to provide safe, reliable resource to our fellow people and do that in a way that represents the best in all.
What’s a moment or part of your job that makes you most proud?
That has changed some over the years, but the core is still the same. I have always had a passion to help people, particularly in major storm events from large damage areas that are in great need. This past year I was tasked with leading crews in Somerset during the tornado outbreak and UPS plane crash in Louisville. Both presented new challenges and excitement, and I am proud of seeing the younger guys buy into the same passion for helping people.
How do you stay involved in your community?
We are always within the community working with the customers. On various levels serving nonprofits and helping on career days at schools and doing “touch-a-truck” shows for children.
What’s something people might not realize about the work you do?
There is a lot of sacrifice for our community and company serving the people of the Bluegrass. We often miss birthdays, holidays weekends, kid’s games and date nights with our significant others. That being said, our spouses and children sacrifice for the community and company. They are a part of this as well because at a moment’s notice, we have to drop our plans or lives to help others. And often times all the weight is now all on their shoulders twofold while also being possibly let down because that plan we had with our family got cancelled because nature called.
What are you most excited about when you think about the future and your work at LG&E and KU?
I’m excited about all the new employees, with new ideas and looking forward to integrating those ideas within training. It will be my job to ensure that we don’t have any blind spots that could jeopardize safety.
