Jim Nichols

Mill Creek 5 Operations and Maintenance Manager

What do you do at LG&E and KU, and how does your work help customers?

My current role is Mill Creek 5 Operations and Maintenance Manager. I’m lucky to be part of the team that will start Mill Creek 5, our newest Combined Cycle Unit.

What does the community you serve mean to you?

The Louisville area is where I grew up and raised my kids. It is home and always will be.

What’s a moment or part of your job that makes you most proud?

Most every day I am proud to serve not only my family, but all families and businesses in our service area. We provide a safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Who would not be proud of that?

How do you stay involved in your community?

Going to Sunday morning church services.

What’s something people might not realize about the work you do?

People might be surprised by the complexity involved in generating electricity. Providing safe, reliable and environmentally responsible service can be challenging, but safety remains our top priority. There is no greater value than ensuring everyone goes home to their families at the end of the day, accident- and injury-free. Safety is the top priority for all employees, contractors and customers.

What are you most excited about when you think about the future and your work at LG&E and KU?

The future is bright. We are building 3 additional Combined Cycle Gas Turbines and the future looks challenging, exciting, and filled with anticipation.
